Did you mean putch or butch?
I mean Putch…A femme(ine) masculine..a femme in butches clothing..but more than that, a camp gentleman, in suit with jewellery and makeup…
I wrote the below in 2005 when I first congealed this into a thought, although it has had a few edits:
For the record…I am queer- I identify if pushed into a gender role as Putch- I am lesbian- which I prefer as a label to dyke (becuase I stutter sometimes and I hate hard “d” sounds thats all) but if you must throw a box around me, make it queer
So what is Putch?
- It’s a female reinterpretation of masculinity through camp- Quentin Crisp is the god and Stephen Fry my pope of putch, I am into genderfuck in the nicest way- dandyish camp, but well mannered and verbal and certainly not mean. Biting maybe, but not mean.
- The word comes from South Auckland- where the mostly polynesian population where I grew up (as outcast, nothing like being the only pakeha/palangi in the class one year…everyone else was at least some part polynesian)- the “b” sound doesn’t exist in Polynesian languages and it often migrates to a “p”
- It also is a homophone (kind of) to putsch- “A sudden attempt by a group to overthrow a government” which continues my bad punning
Onto bad punning
1queer1 is an attempt to write |queer| (AbsolutQueer) so that it doesn’t stuff up web pages
one queer one - of course its obvious
|queer| can also be
- Absolute queer (as in |-4|= |4| in absolute numbers at mathematics) andÂ
- absolut queer is my domain name- and was a great late 80’s campaign
- and in programming |queer| would take any input, queer it, and return that input for the next program
Yes sadly I am also a geek extrodinaire
